Five or six years ago, the Ghost Whisperer Jacket was “the puffy” for trail because it was only 8.8oz. In terms of innovations, if you were to compare your cell phone from five or six years ago to the one you have today, you probably wouldn’t think it was possible. That’s how I feel when I compare my Ghost Whisperer to Zpack’s Goose Down Jacket. It has it beat weight wise at only 6.8oz and has amazing loft that not only keeps you toasty, but does well to block wind. The other thing I appreciate about this jacket is that it has an elastic drawstring along the bottom and elastic at the wrists, which not only helps to keep the jacket in place, but also acts as a seal to keep heat from escaping. They also come in handy to make sure that the coat doesn’t shift and get exposed from under your shell in bad weather. The DownTek 950 Fill power goose down has a “C6” water repellent which allows it to stay dry over 90% longer than untreated down. We often are aware of outside water like rain or snow affecting our down items, but let’s not forget internal threats such as our own perspiration. With all these new innovations from Zpacks, when it comes to this coat, I’m super happy to have it in my arsenal.
